Our first goal is to reconnect the homeless with their families and friends. When that is not
a possibility we look for secondary alternatives in the form of treatment, programs and housing.
The effectiveness of having daily intervention in the field cannot be overstated. It
keeps people from becoming stuck in a lifestyle of chronic homelessness. West Coast Care has been a
leader in developing a top tier outreach program in Santa Monica.
A good way to think of effective outreach is to see it as a rehabilitation center without walls. It is like a
care facility that is on the move and practical. Instead of waiting for a homeless person to completely bottom
out, often losing their health in an irrecoverable way, our staff is equipped to offer counseling, assistance and
resources before its too late. Receiving help becomes easier. Getting help is no longer a last alternative.
West Coast Care has made a big impact in reducing homelessness in Santa Monica. Each day our
outreach team covers more than 15 miles of parks, beaches and streets helping the homeless. Since Oct. 06
more than 1300 people have been directly helped to transition off the streets.
